Circuit for connecting the Videoton-340 with the ES-1030 as an operator console
A system of connection of the Videoton-340 text display to the standard ES-7070 unit, for use as an operator console, partially replacing and supplementing the ES-7070 electric typewriter, is described. The interactions, including the specific instructions, among the Videoton-340, the Consul-260.1 electric typewriter and the ES-7070, which is the means of user access to the unified system of computers, are presented. Users at the Institute of Space Research note the reliability, high information output rate, noiselessness and convenience of the keyboard of the system
A comparison of the Cray-2 performance before and after the installation of memory pseudo-banking
A suite of 13 large Fortran benchmark codes were run on a Cray-2 configured with memory pseudo-banking circuits, and floating point operation rates were measured for each under a variety of system load configurations. These were compared with similar flop measurements taken on the same system before installation of the pseudo-banking. A useful memory access efficiency parameter was defined and calculated for both sets of performance rates, allowing a crude quantitative measure of the improvement in efficiency due to pseudo-banking. Programs were categorized as either highly scalar (S) or highly vectorized (V) and either memory-intensive or register-intensive, giving 4 categories: S-memory, S-register, V-memory, and V-register. Using flop rates as a simple quantifier of these 4 categories, a scatter plot of efficiency gain vs Mflops roughly illustrates the improvement in floating point processing speed due to pseudo-banking. On the Cray-2 system tested this improvement ranged from 1 percent for S-memory codes to about 12 percent for V-memory codes. No significant gains were made for V-register codes, which was to be expected

Congestion Reduction in Traditional and New Routing Architectures
In dense integrated circuit designs, management of routing congestion is essential; an over congested design may be unroutable. Many factors influence congestion: placement, routing, and routing architecture all contribute. Previous work has shown that different placement tools can have substantially different demands for each routing layer; our objective is to develop methods that allow “tuning” of interconnect topologies to match routing resources. We focus on congestion minimization for both Manhattan and non-Manhattan routing architectures, and have two main contributions. First, we combine prior heuristics for non-Manhattan Steiner trees and Preferred Direction Steiner trees into a hybrid approach that can handle arbitrary routing directions, via minimization, and layer assignment of edges simultaneously. Second, we present an effective method to adjust Steiner tree topologies to match routing demand to resource, resulting in lower congestion and better routability
Numerical computer peripheral interactive device with manual controls
A computer peripheral device is disclosed which includes a joystick whose displacement from a counter position along two axes X and Y in either a plus (+) or a minus (-) direction is sensed. The displacement magnitude in either direction controls the rate of clock pulses provided by a variable frequency clock. The clock pulses from the two clocks are accumulated in two separate counters, whose contents are displayed. The contents of the counters are suppliable to a computer to update the contents of specific cells which define the position of a cursor on a display which is under computer control
Functionality of soybean CBF/DREB1 transcription factors
Soybean (Glycine max) is considered to be cold intolerant and is not able to significantly acclimate to cold/freezing stress. In most cold tolerant plants, the C-repeat/DRE Binding Factors (CBF/DREBs) are critical contributors to successful cold-responses; rapidly increasing following cold treatment and regulating the induction of many cold responsive genes. In soybean vegetative tissue, we found strong, transient accumulation of CBF transcripts in response to cold stress; however, the soybean transcripts of typical cold responsive genes (homologues to Arabidopsis genes such as dehydrins, ADH1, RAP2.1, and LEA14) were not significantly altered. Soybean CBFs were found to be functional, as when expressed constitutively in Arabidopsis they increased the levels of AtCOR47 and AtRD29a transcripts and increased freezing tolerance as measured by a decrease in leaf freezing damage and ion leakage. Furthermore the constitutive expression of GmDREB1A;2 and GmDREB1B;1 in Arabidopsis led to stronger up-regulation of downstream genes and more freezing tolerance than GmDREB1A;1, the gene whose transcript is the major contributor to total CBF/DREB1 transcripts in soybean. The inability for the soybean CBFs to significantly up regulate the soybean genes that contribute to cold tolerance is consistent with poor acclimation capability and the cold intolerance of soybean
